Welcome!
Welcome to my blog! My name is Nicole Becker and I'm currently a sophomore at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ. I am a double major in Education and Communications with a minor in Speech.
For me, the biggest passion in my life is the ability to make a difference. Ever since I was little, I knew I wanted to become a teacher and turn my love of learning into a love of teaching. This love of learning has grown over the years and has inspired to me to want to work in inner-city schools. I know I will not only be making a difference but hopefully changing lives.
I was born and raised in Staten Island, New York and I've been exposed to the truths behind inner city schools. Also, I have recently volunteered at Princeton Young Achievers, which is an after school program that helps children from low-income neighborhoods get the attention they deserve. Even though many say I'm crazy for wanting to teach in an urban environment, I just think of all the lives I will be changing. There are many challenges that come with this career path but I feel with my determination, hard work, and passion I will achieve my goals.
I am also very passionate about my Communication major and speech minor. In the past two years, I have realized that almost everything I've learned in those classes, I can use in the classroom as an educator, everything from technology to public speaking.
After graduating in 2012, I plan on going to graduate school for education administration and hopefully become a New York City principal.

Nicole,
ReplyDeleteYour portfolio was dynamic and really well organized. The template that you used was very colorful and inviting but still had a professional feel to it, which is important and was great. I think that the posts you chose to include were great and really helped to market you as a teacher, because they all showed that you have the ability to work with different programs and that you have experience speaking in front of people and taking feedback, which is helpful for someone who wants to teach. I really liked that you included the article “What Teachers Really Need.” It might not have been your work, but it was work that reflected the way you feel and it isn't that long, so it is easy enough for someone to pull up and read. It gives a nice understanding about something you feel strongly about in the career you want to go into. Your presentation of the material was also very nice, but be careful of speaking too quickly because you run out of breath. I noticed that you looked at the projection on the wall, so be conscious of your eye contact. But other than that, you let your personality show along with your professional side, which was great! Nice job.
